Reading
"There's no such thing as a kid that hates reading. There are kids who love reading, and there are kids who are reading the wrong books." ~James Patterson
At Kemp, our 3rd grade team uses the Lucy Calkins reading program. This consists of "sessions" that cover everything from building a reading life to analyzing secondary characters in a text. In class, students will learn not only strategies they will need to comprehend higher level texts, but also be encouraged to try reading new kinds of chapter books and how to share what they are reading with those around them. Our team also uses fun read aloud novels and picture books to enhance student learning and engagement. Students are encouraged to have a copy of each read aloud in order to be able to find text evidence for their assignments. Please see your teacher's personal blog/emails for specific read aloud titles. |
